William Shakespeare was a PLAYWRITE!

He wrote plays and sonnets. Sonnets are poems have 14 lines with 10 syllables in each line. Queen Elizabeth loved Shakespeare's plays, her favourite was Titus Andronicus. His plays were usually tragic and involved lots of death. He didn't always write about death, he also wrote comedies.

The storyline is based on Hamlet, a story about a wicked Uncle, a Father who dies in suspicious circumstances and a son who must reclaim the throne. Hamlet is a play written by Shakespeare. A lot of his work is still in theatres today, nearly 500 years later.

The Tudors absolutely loved going to the theatre

• They didn't even have lights? So, going to the theatre was a real treat!

• There would be fireworks, drama and fun
