How do I create equivalent fractions?

  • 1/3 = x/9

  • In this example, think about what you need to do to go from 3 to 9. In other words, think "3 times what is 9?"

  • Hopefully we know that 3 times 3 is 9, so that means we are multiplying 1/3 x 3. Multiply the bottom AND top by 3.
