OSMOSIS

MOVEMENT OF WATER MOLECULES ACROSS A MEMBRANE

4

Solutions

Aquaporins are water channels for the water molecules. HYPOtonic and HYPERtonic are solutions thst result in osmosis

5

Isotonic Solution

This solution has the same concentration percentage of solute and solvent. Water can move however it wants in this case. When a cell is placed in a isotonic solution it DOES NOT change in size.

6

Hypotonic Solution

This solution has a higher solvent concentration rate that solute. This results in water to keep on going into the cell, then the cell will start swelling. All this swelling will make the cell explode.

7

Hypertonic

This solution has a higher solute concentration percentage compared to solvent. Water will leave the cell making until it ends up shriveling up and dying.

8

Endocytosis

The process of when a cell surrounds material with its membrane. Particles ENTER the cell.

9

Exocytosis

The discharge of materials by vesicles that travel to the cell membrane to be released. Things EXIT the cell.
