We use so before

• adjectives (so easy)

• adversb (so quickly)

• words like few, little, much, many (so much to remember...)

Examples

• The grammar was so easy that I didn't even pay attention.

• I understood it so quickly that I felt like a genius.

• There is so much traffic! I'm sure we will be late.

We use such before

• a noun (such a tragedy)

• adjective + noun (such a beautiful day)

• a lot of + noun (such a lot of problems)

Examples

• He was such a bore that I couldn't listen without falling asleep.

• She is such a nice person that I can't say anything bad about her.

• There is such a lot of rubbish on the streets! I can't stand it.

Please remember that

• if the word is countable, you must include a/an in the construction (such a bad essay, such an interesting company)

• if the word is uncountable or plural, don't do that (such good information, such bad news, such long hours)

• We use few/many for counable nouns and little/much for uncountable ones.
