Today our focus is NYS Standards. At the end of today's discussion, you will:

  • Know what NYS Standards are and some brief history

  • Understand what the function of standards are, what they are NOT, and why they are vital in curriculum development and lesson planning

  • What standards are included at the Pre-K level and how they should be used at our learning level.

Timeline of NYS Standards

  • NYS Board of Regents adopted the common core learning standards in 2010. These were implemented to ensure our students were gaining world ready skills.

  • In 2017, NYS Board of Regents re-envisioned the mathematics and ELA standards to be future forward and to ensure the state was focused on developing 21st Century learners. Thus, The NextGen Standards in Math and ELA were implemented.
