Improper Fraction

• Fractions where the numerator is larger than the denominator.

• Examples:

   $\frac{8}{7}\ \ \frac{10}{6}\ \ \frac{5}{3}$  

Mixed Number

• A number that has both a whole number and a fraction.

• Examples:

   $1\ \frac{2}{3}\ \ \ \ 5\ \frac{1}{4}\ \ \ \ 10\ \frac{5}{8}$  

Converting an Improper Fraction to a mixed Number.

Divide the numerator by the denominator. The quotient becomes the whole number and the remainder becomes the numerator. The denominator stays the same.
