Representing the Thousandths Place
Expanded Notation - Writing a number to show the value of each digit.
For example: 265.13 = (2 × 100) + (6 × 10) + (5 × 1) + (1 x 0.1) + (3 x 0.01)
Word Form - Writing a number how you would say it with words. For example: 265.13 = two hundred sixty-five and thirteen hundredths
Remember: The tenths place is the first place value to the right of the decimal. The hundredths place is the second place value after the decimal. The thousandths place is the third place value after the decimal.

Comparing and Ordering Decimals
When comparing decimals you must remember to line up the decimals so your place values will line up naturally and start comparing left to right.
> is greater than
< is less than
= is equal to
Remember: when ordering decimals to pay attention whether it says "least to greatest OR greatest to least".

Rounding Decimals
First, figure out which place value you are rounding to and underline the digit in that place value.
Next, circle the "judge" which is the place value directly to the right of your underlined digit.
The judge will help you decide if you are keeping the underlined digit the same or if you are rounding it up
Remember: "4 or less - let it rest, 5 or more - add one more"
With decimal numbers, you do not have to change every digit after the underlined digit to a zero, but you can, it will not affect the value - just make the number look differently.

Addition and Subtraction of Decimals
When adding and subtracting decimals you MUST line up your decimals so your place values will also line up.
It's also helpful to fill in the "empty" spots with zeros so your addition or subtraction doesn't confuse you.
When subtracting, remember your regrouping rules. You can only borrow from your neighbor. You cannot borrow from someone that does not have anything (a zero).
