Examples

Mary had three cats for every one dog at her house. She write this ratio in the order she says the items. 3:1 or 3/1 or 3 to 1.

Another example is Don has 4 bikes to every 3 people at his house. He writes his ratios as 4:3 or 4/3 or 4 to 3.

If Don had 3 bikes to every 4 people at his houes the ratios would look like this: 3:4 or 3/4 or 3 to 4.
