Comparisons of inequality

Comparisons of inequality are formed by placing más (more) or menos (less) before adjectives, adverbs and nouns and que (than) after them.

Comparisons of equality (p. 68)
To make comparisons of equality, showing that something is as + adjective/adverb + as something else, use tan + adjetivo + como
Ella es tan atlética como yo.
When describing how many nouns there are in comparison to other nouns, use tanto/a (singular, masculine or feminine) or tantos/as (plural, masculine or feminine). When using nouns, instead of adjectives or adverbs, to make the comparison, tanto/os/a/as should match the noun(s in gender in number.
tanto/os/a/as + noun(s) + como
Hay tantas peras como manzanas.

When comparing nouns, tanto acts as an adjective and therefore, should agree in # and gender with the noun/s being compared:
Yo probé tantos platos como él. (platos, masculine and plural)
