An exponential function with base b is defined by f(x)=abx where a ≠0, b > 0 , b ≠1, and x is any real number.
The base, b, is constant and the exponent, x, is a variable.

If all the x-values have a constant difference and all of the y-values have a constant ratio, then the table represents an Exponential Function.
For example, f(x) =2x is shown in the table to the right.
