  • describe nouns or pronouns.

Types of Adjectives

  • quality/description

  • quantity

  • demonstrative

  • interrogative

  • distributive

Adjectives of quality or description

  • used to describe the appearance or quality of the noun or pronoun (terangkan fizikal atau kualiti sesuatu benda atau orang)

  • wild animal

  • expensive clothes

  • worried face

Adjectives of quantity

  • refer to the amount or number of things described. (rujuk kepada kuantiti atau bilangan seseorang atau sesuatu benda.)

  • some money

  • nine books

  • two boys

  • no water

Demonstrative adjectives

  • point out the nouns or pronouns that are being talked about. (rujuk kepada seseorang atau sesuatu yang dibincangkan)

  • that boy

  • these grapes

  • this key

  • those children

Interrogative adjectives

  • ask questions about the nouns or pronouns that are being talked about. (tanya soalan tentang sesuatu atau seseorang yang dibincangkan)

  • Whose shoes....?

  • Which boy....?

  • What time...?

Distributive adjectives

  • refer to nouns taken singly or in a group (rujuk kepada kata nama yang satu sahaja atau dalam satu kumpulan)

  • Each person

  • all animals

  • every child

Comparison of Adjectives

  • There are three degrees of comparison

  • Positive degree (used to compare two things, either equal or unequal)

  • Comparative degree (used to compare two things having the same quality)

  • Superlative degree (used to compare three or more things.

Positive degree (equal/unequal)

  • equal (as + adjective + as) --- Amy is already as tall as her mother.

  • unequal (not as +adjective + as) --- This bag is not as heavy as that one.

  • Eg: You are as beautiful as the flower.

  • Eg: The book is not as thick as dictionary.

Comparative adjectives

  • more + adjective + than

  • adjective + 'er' + than

  • For eg: Kay is more intelligent than her brother.

  • For eg: This dress is cheaper than that one.

Superlative Adjectives

  • the + adjective + 'est'

  • the most + adjective

  • For eg: Who is the smartest boy in your class?

  • For eg: This is the most wonderful day of my life!
