First example

• If you want to compare between TWO things, you add er.

• Giraffe is taller than cat.

• Example: taller, smaller

Second example

• If you want to compare between THREE things, you should add The....(est)

• Example: The cat is the shortest between horse and dog.

• 
  

Third example

• There are some special case for certain adjective.

• Example: The Jupiter is bigger than the Earth

• You need to add -ger for the adjective big.
