What is parallel structure?

It is the use of similar kinds of words and phrases to express related ideas.

Remember when we talked about parallel structure?

• Examples:

• Not parallel: Mary likes hiking, swimming, and to ride a bicycle.

• Parallel: Mary likes hiking, swimming, and riding a bicycle.

• Not parallel: My best friend took me dancing and to a show.  

• Parallel: My best friend took me to a dance and a show.
