Verleden tijd

We gebruiken de past simple als...

• Je praat over iets dat is gebeurd in het verleden.

• "I was at school." and "They were in time."

• Belangrijk: am, are, is & can worden in de past was, were & could.

• Een ontkennende zin ziet er zo uit:

• "I wasn't at school." or "They weren't in time."

Vraagzinnen in the past

• Om een vraagzin in the past te maken schuif je het werkwoord helemaal naar voren, daarna de persoonsvorm en daarna de rest van de zin.

• "She was in the garden." -> "Was she in the garden?"

• "They were outside." -> "Were they outside?"

• "He was in the house." -> "Was he in the house?"

• "She could talk all day long." -> "Could she talk all day long?"

Ontkennende (vraag)zinnen in the past

• Om te zeggen of vragen dat iemand iets niet heeft gedaan, gebruik je 'not'.

• "I couldn't leave the party." -> "Couldn't I leave the party?"

• "She wasn't very sad." -> "Wasn't she very sad?"

• "They weren't on the roof." -> "Weren't they on the roof?"
