APST CH23 OxyAcetylene

In this quizizz lesson, I would like to explain more about Fuel Gas Setup.

media

2

OxyFuel Heating, Cutting and Welding Kit

  • These are the basic parts of an oxyfuel setup

  • Not all equipment will look the same, but most will have the same function.

media

3

Multiple Choice

All oxyfuel equipment kits will look the same even though they may have different functions.

1

True

2

False

4

Oxygen Regulator

  • This unit has the responsibility of reducing the high pressure in the oxygen cylinder down to a safe working pressure and expelling it into the green hose.

  • There is a high pressure gauge for the cylinder (F), a low pressure gauge for the hose (E) and a green knob to control hose pressure (G).

  • (R) connects to the cylinder & has right-handed threads.

media

5

Multiple Choice

Question image

What type of threads does (R) have?

1

left-handed

2

right-handed

3

clockwise

4

off-threaded

6

(R) has right-handed threads that will only work on the oxygen cylinder.

media

7

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which way does (G) get turned to increase oxygen cylinder pressure?

1

counterclockwise

2

clockwise

3

up

4

none of these

8

Did I get you on that one?

  • (G) doesn't control cylinder pressure. It controls the pressure in the hose/line.

  • Turn (G) clockwise to increase hose pressure.

media

9

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which way does (G) get turned to increase oxygen hose pressure?

1

counterclockwise

2

clockwise

3

up

4

none of these

10

Fuel Gas Regulator

  • This unit has the responsibility of reducing the high pressure in the fuel gas cylinder down to a safe working pressure and expelling it into the red hose.

  • There is a high pressure gauge for the cylinder (N), a low pressure gauge for the hose (M) and a red knob to control hose pressure (O).

  • (P) connects to the cylinder & has left-handed threads.

media

11

Multiple Choice

Question image

What type of threads does (P) have?

1

left-handed

2

right-handed

3

clockwise

4

off-threaded

12

(P) has left-handed threads that will only work on the fuel gas cylinder.

media

13

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which way does (O) get turned to increase fuel gas hose pressure?

1

counterclockwise

2

clockwise

3

up

4

none of these

14

Just like the oxygen regulator knob, the knob (O) on the fuel gas regulator is turned clockwise as well to increase hose pressure.

media

15

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which regulator is capable of handling higher gas pressures?

1

Red

2

Green

16

The oxygen (green) regulator can handle the much-higher pressures of an oxygen cylinder.

17

Multiple Choice

Question image

What does K control?

1

oxygen gas

2

fuel gas

18

K controls the oxygen coming into the torch body.

media

19

Multiple Choice

Question image

What does J control?

1

oxygen gas

2

fuel gas

20

J controls the fuel gas coming into the torch body.

media

21

Multiple Choice

Question image

What is this?

1

oxyfuel torch body

2

oxyfuel torch head

3

oxyfuel welding tip

4

oxyfuel rosebud tip

22

This is an oxyfuel torch body. It is hooked up to an oxygen and a fuel gas hose and fitted with a cutting head, welding tip or rosebud.

23

Multiple Choice

Question image

What direction is K turned to increase gas flow?

1

clockwise

2

counterclockwise

24

All the knobs, K, J, and B on these two parts are opened by turning counterclockwise (Lefty-Loosey if you're familiar with that!)

media

25

Multiple Choice

Question image

When moving parts A, B, C, J and K use:

1

a wrench

2

a vice grip

3

your hand

4

your teeth

26

A & C can be tightened pretty much as hard as you want to by hand. B, J, and K, however can be EASILY damaged by tightening too much with your hand. You should stop when you feel the slightest of resistance!!!!!! Fittings on S and T can be tightened snugly with a wrench.

Multiple Choice

Question image

What type of threads does S have?

1

clockwise

2

counterclockwise

3

left-hand

4

right-hand

28

S is an oxygen fitting and those are all right-hand threads (righty-tighty)

media

29

Multiple Choice

Question image

What type of threads does T have?

1

clockwise

2

counterclockwise

3

left-hand

4

right-hand

30

T is a fuel gas fitting and those are all left-hand threads (lefty-tighty)

media

Question image

What gets attached to T?

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

fuel hose

4

oxygen hose

Question image

What gets attached to S?

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

fuel hose

4

oxygen hose

33

Question image

What gets attached to the big end of this? Check all that apply.

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

rosebud

4

oxygen hose

Question image

What is this?

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

rosebud

4

torch body

35

You'll use this to weld metal together with oxyfuel.

What is this?

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

rosebud

4

torch body

37

You'll use this to heat up metal.

Question image

What is this?

1

welding tip

2

cutting head

3

rosebud

4

torch body

39

No surprise here, you'll use this to cut metal with oxyfuel.

media

40

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which order for lighting this cutting torch is correct?

1

Open B, Spark, Open K, Open J

2

Open K, Open J, Spark, Open B

3

Open J, Open K, Spark, Open B

4

Open J, Open B, Spark, Open K

41

This is VERY important so we don't all die!!! Open the oxygen torch body valve (K) all the way. Have your sparker ready. Open the fuel gas valve slightly until gas flows (1/8-1/4 turn CC). Spark near the tip of the cutting head to light the torch. Adjust fuel gas flow until soot stops (J). Turn on Oxygen Preheat Valve (B) until you achieve a neutral flame.

media

42

Multiple Choice

Question image

Which is correct for extinguishing the flame from a cutting torch?

1

Close K, Close B

2

Close K, Close J

3

Close B, Close J

4

Close J, Close B

43

Pretty simple here. Turn off the fuel (J). The oxygen gas snuffs out the flame. Turn off the preheat oxygen (B). Leave the torch body oxygen valve (K) open until you're shutting the rig down or changing tips.
