• during 500s B.C Persian swept to Southwest Asia

• defeated Chaldeans and took over Babylon

• In 538 B.C Cyrus the Great allowed Jewish to return Judah

• Some stayed in Babylon. Other rebuilt Jerusalem and the temple

• Persian did not allow to have their king so religious leaders, temple priest and scribes lead the society

• Ezra wrote 5 books of Torah in parchment and sew and made scroll

• Added writings made the Hebrew Bible
