• A preposition is a word that relates a noun or pronoun to some other word in the sentences.

• It helps to connect the noun/pronoun to its direction or location.

Example

• Mammoth Cave is in southwest Kentucky.

• in is letting us know the location of Mammoth Cave.

• You can enter several connected caves below the surface.

• Below is telling us the location of the cave.

Example

• Dripping water slowly carved the caves from limestone rock.

• from is telling us the location of the water.
