Learning objectives
To be able to link short-term effects of exercise to the muscular, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
To show an understanding of how these effects are relevant to sporting performance.
4
What do we know already?
Take a look at the short clip. From what you can see here and remember from previous lessons make a list of any short term effects of exercise you can think of?
5
What is 'Short term'
Something that does not last very long, for example, an increased heart rate after exercise which returns to normal after a few minutes of resting.
6
Multiple Select
Which of these would NOT be a short term effect of exercise?
Increased left ventricle size
Sweating
Muscle fatigue
Increased HR

Why might an increase in temperature be beneficial for our muscular system before competetive exercise?
Our muscles and joints become more pliable
We can't exercise if we're cold
Our muscles look bigger when they are warmer

Multiple Choice
What is vascular shunt?
A hormone released from the adrenal glands
The rise of the heart rate before exercise
When blood is distributed to the working muscles and less to the non-essential organs
