The intricately designed golden coins minted during the Gupta period were called the Dinaras
Some of the dinaras minted during Samudragupta's reign shows him playing the veena.

We know about Samudragupta from a long inscription in the Ashokan pillar in Allahabad
It was composed as Kavya by Harishena , who was a poet and a
minister in the court of Samudragupta
Prashasti , a Sankrit word means “ in praise of”

Whose body was most charming, being covered with the plenteous beauty of the marks of hundreds of scars caused by battle-axes, arrows, spikes, spears, barbed darts, swords, iron clubs, javelins, barbed arrows, long arrows and many other weapons.

Ajanta Caves
Ajanata caves is a place were several caves were hollowed out of hills over centuries.
Most of these were monastries by Buddhist monks and some of these were decorated with painting .
As the caves were dark most of the paintings were done in the light of the torches
The colours were vivid even after 1500 years and were made of plants and mineral extracts
During the Gupta period (5th and 6th centuries A.D.), many more richly decorated caves were added to the original group.
The paintings and sculptures of Ajanta, considered masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, have had a considerable artistic influence.

Iron Pillar
The iron pillar at Delhi remarkable example of Indian metallurgy
It is made of iron , 7.2 m high and weighs over 3 tonnes
It was made about 1500 years ago.
There is an inscription on the pillar mentioning the ruler named Chandra , who belonged to the Gupta Dynasty
What is amazing is the pillar has not rusted in all these years

Gupta Empire - The foundation
The Gupta empire was founded by Sri Gupta sometime between 240 and 280 CE.
Sri Gupta's son and successor, Ghatotkacha, ruled from around 280 to 319 CE.
Chandragupta I , Ghatokacha’s son, ascended the throne around 319 and ruled until 335 CE.
He married Lichchhavi princess Kumradevi. The Lichchhavis were ruling parts of Nepal
He confined his rule to Magadha and parts of eastern Uttarpradesh
He assumed the title of Magarajadhiraj
