What is community service?
The idea of service to others is appealing to parents who want their children to grow up to be generous. Many parents demonstrate service to their children by volunteering at the hospital, at school, at a soup kitchen, at a food pantry, and by philanthropy.

Helpful tips:
>Students should have between three and five professional references.
• References should never be family members.
• References may include former or current employers, teachers, coaches, and mentors.
• All references should be asked permission before they are used, then informed after they are used.
• Neither a list of references nor should the line “References Available Upon Request” be included in a resume.

Employment Reference
An employment reference should discuss a prospect's work performance. While the reference will discuss his personality, statements should refer to performance at his job. Punctuality, teamwork, experience and work ethic are the types of things discussed. Consider an employment reference to be a professional reference. It should give you an idea of the type of employee you could gain.

14
Character reference
A character reference is a personal reference that discusses the candidate's personality. It won't necessarily discuss job performance, but can discuss related experience. A character reference is rarely as revealing as an employment reference; applicants may list family, friends or other associates as personal references. Many people who give character references are personally connected to the prospect and may not give you the best insight into the real person you're hiring.
