Powers and Exponents

Powers are numbers that use a base and an exponent to show when the same number is multiplied by itself multiple times.

The base is the large number that tells you what to multiply and the exponent tells you how many times to write it.

In this example the base and the exponent are both three. This means we take the number 3 and multiply it by itself three times like this:  3333\cdot3\cdot3  which gives us a value of 27. If we simply did  333\cdot3  we would only have a value of 9.
