How does this metaphor work?

• It is an insult to those who are rich and privileged by accident of birth.

• They do have to make it to home plate, but they did NOT NEED TO MAKE AN EFFORT to get to 3rd base.

• If you just start the game at third base, you did not get there yourself. Your family and its money and power got you there.

• Someone who is born rich and buys their way to famous universities is essentially born on third base.

• The sad part is those born on third often resent the idea that they didn't make their own success.
