What is a baseword?
What is a suffix?
A baseword is a word that can stand alone and has meaning
Example: risk
A suffix is a part of a word that is added to the end of a word and can change its meaning
Ex. -ing

-er Vowel Suffix
means "a person who does something"
hunter: one who hunts (hunt is the baseword)
planter: one who plants (plant is the baseword)
singer: one who sings (sing is the baseword)

-er Suffix: also is used when comparing TWO things, people or actions.
If we compare Maria to Jeff, who is taller?
One is tall, the other is taller
We have compared 2 people

-est Vowel Suffix: is used when comparing THREE or more things, people or actions.
If we compare Jason, Maria, and Jeff, who is the tallest?
One is tall, the other is taller, and the third is the tallest.
