Did You Know - Apple Once Sued Microsoft!

In 1988, Apple sued Microsoft in a lawsuit for $5.5 billion! Apple had released the first one-of-a-kind Macintosh in 1984 - a GUI operating system. Later, in November 1985 Microsoft released Windows 1.0 which alarmed a number of individuals at Apple because they believed that Microsoft had stolen several design elements of the Mac operating system including the GUI.

Then Windows 2.0 was released which Apple was apparently so upset by this that it skipped threatening letters and phone calls and went straight to filing a lawsuit for violating Apple's Copyright Policy.

But nothing happened as the Court said that "Ideas cannot be copyrighted."

Here's Mine: Boxing Day: 26/12

Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide.

Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday.

It originated in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in a number of countries that previously formed part of the British Empire.

Boxing Day is on 26 December, although the attached bank holiday or public holiday (In countries that celebrate it) may take place either on that day or one or two days later (to ensure it falls on a weekday).

National Call a Friend Day on December 28^th every year was established to remind everyone to take a few moments out of your day to reach out to that one friend you’ve been meaning to talk to you. 

WHY NATIONAL CALL A FRIEND DAY IS IMPORTANT: In today’s society, technology has connected us more than ever before. We can instantly connect with a friend or family member thousands of miles away in an instant. The internet has made long distances and different times zones no longer large obstacles when it comes to communication.

However, these advancements in technology have also had quite the opposite effect, as well. We are so accustomed to having so much at our fingertips that we often miss out on a lot of life. Our smartphones and the internet grant us access to social media, emails, instant messaging, and so much more. However, all of these options give us too much to focus on.

We often bounce from one task to another or even multitask. Text messaging and direct messaging on social media allows us to not respond to a message for days at a time. These new ways of communication can make us feel less connected than ever before.

With the holiday season approaching, we are even busier than normal. These channels of communication become even more crowded than before, making it hard to keep up with one another.

That’s why taking the time to reach out to a friend via phone call is so important.

Which Tree inspired the Chipko Movement?

Origin - Chipko Movement

The Chipko movement was a protest in 1973 to stop cutting trees where people hugged the trees to prevent them being cut down. The word "Chipko" means to hug in Hindi.

They told the loggers: "If the forest is cut, the soil will be washed away. Landslides and soil erosion will bring floods, which will destroy our fields and homes, our water sources will dry up, and all the other benefits we get from the forest will be finished". Despite threats and abuses the people stood firm until the loggers left four days later.

It was inspired by the Khejri tree (also known as prosopis-cineraria or Jand) which was considered Sacred in Rajasthan, where the movement began.
