Wait, what?
A common misconception many people have is that the seasons are caused by the distance of the Earth from the Sun. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Because Earth's orbit around the Sun is slightly elliptical, Earth is actually slightly closer to the Sun in the winter than it is in the summer for us in the Northern Hemisphere.
