What are rates?

  • A rate is a ratio in which two quantities are measured in different units.

  • For example 12 golf balls for $6 can be written as 12:6. This RATE compares golf balls to their price.

  • Both a ratio and a rate can be stated i the form of a fraction

  • can sometimes be expressed as whole numbers because the denominator is assumed to be one
