We use 100% to mean ‘everything’ – the total amount. 


To find 50%, halve the amount OR divide the amount by 2.

so, 25% is a 1/4 of 100%


You need to divide 100% by 4

or, you can divide 100% by 2, and the divide it by 2 again



50% of 96 = 48

because 96 ÷ 4 = 24


Therefore 25% of 96 = 24

What was the price of the jeans in the sale?  


10% of £50 = £5

30% of £50 = 3×"£5"= £15 

Thereforediscount given = £15 

Sale Price = original amount – discount

                  =  £50 -  £15  =  £35
