在此語境中,要描述的是當風愈大時,旅人就會將大衣拉得愈緊,兩動作間有程度上的相互影響,故使用「the...the...」的句型來表示「愈⋯愈⋯」。

Adj. 及 Adv.如何形成比較級(comparative)
1. 單音節形容詞 + er, 例: fast→faster。
2. 字尾-e + r, 例: large→larger。
3. 短母音+子音字尾 →重複字尾子音 + er, 例: hot→hotter。
4. 子音+y →去y+ ier, 例: happy→happier。
5. 特殊比較級, 例: good→better, bad→worse,
many/much→more, little→less。
6. 兩個音節以上,多半直接在前面加more 例: popular → more popular
7. 副詞因為通常是ly結尾,形成比較級通常在前面加more。
8. 表示否定,則直接在前面加less。

【改寫步驟】:通常是由「As/If... + S1 + V1..., S2 + V2....」轉變而來。去掉連接詞,把句中形容詞或副詞改成比較級,加上the搬到句首,其他主詞、動詞順序不變。
.(原句) As Michael is richer, he becomes greedier.
--> The richer Michael is, the greedier he becomes.
*留意:
(1) 不需連接詞,用逗點將兩子句隔開。
(2) 不要重複比較級,字尾有er就不用再加more。
(3) 若有名詞,則要跟著形容詞一起移至句首。
