Therefore it was necessary to have a system of local government that could take care of the requirements of the rural population and implement policies meant for them. we call this system Panchyati Raj

Panchayati Raj System is a process through which people participate in their own government. In ancient times , panchayat used to have five Panchas. Nowadays, these numbers varies from 20-30 depending upon the size of the village.
