Conjunctions are words that help to connect ideas together.

There are three main types.

Coordinating Conjunctions

  • Coordinating conjunctions are used to connect words, phrases, and simple sentences.

  • The most common ones are and, but, yet, or and so.

Subordinating Conjunctions

  • Subordinating conjunctions introduce the dependent clause in a complex sentence.

  • The dependent clause tells you about the other part of the sentences and CANNOT STAND ALONE.

  • Some common subordinating conjunctions are after, before, as, while, until, because, since, unless, although, and if.
