the difference in electronegativity between the two atoms is at least 0.4 but less than 2.0.


The atoms in this situation are not equally sharing the electrons and the electron cloud is shifted toward one of the atoms.


The atom with the greater share of the electron cloud has a partial negative charge. The other atom has a partial positive charge.
