Figure of speech
A figure of speech is a word or phrase that possesses a separate meaning from its literal definition. It can be a metaphor or simile, designed to make a comparison. It can be the repetition of alliteration or the exaggeration of hyperbole to provide a dramatic effect.

Simile
A simile is a figure of speech that compares two different things using the words “like” or “as.” The purpose of a simile is to help describe one thing by comparing it to another thing that is perhaps seemingly unrelated.
Eg: You were as brave as a lion.
5
Metaphor
A metaphor is a comparison between two different things without using “like” and “as.”
Eg: All the world is a stage
6
Personification
Giving a human quality to an object or ideas
Eg: The Leaves are dancing
7
Alliteration
The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words that are close together.
Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore.
8
Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is the process of creating a word that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests the sound that it describes. Such a word itself is also called an onomatopoeia.
Common onomatopoeias include animal noises such as "oink", "meow" (or "miaow"), "roar" and "chirp".
9
10
Hyperbole
The use of exaggeration for emphasis or effect.
His shoes cost a billion dollars!
