How much do you know about the church?

Slide image

2

Poll

What is a church?

A building used for public Christian worship.

The group of people living in harmony as the body of Christ.

It is a certain denomination.

3

Truest meaning of the word "church"

The definition of a "church" as a separate building specifically for worship would have been foreign to the early believers, as they met in homes.

Church is not about having four walls and a pulpit. It is about living in the harmony as the body of Christ. (adventist.org)

4

Poll

Who are Seventh-day Adventists?

A global family of Christians who hold the Bible as the ultimate authority.

FOLLOWS A WOMAN PROPHET BY THE NAME OF ELLEN G. WHITE

A perfect and a true church!

5

The truth:

*The S.D.A church never claims to be the true church, we claim to be a product that came about from the remnant church, that is, the S.D.A church was formed by people who kept God’s commandments and the faith of Jesus. One doesn’t need to be an Adventist to be saved, but a Christian would do well to be involved in a church that is most biblically sound in theology.

*We do not worship Ellen White, we view her as a prominent women in Christianity – nothing more, and nothing less.

6

Poll

What is the cornerstone or foundation for Seventh-day Adventists' faith?

Keeping the law

Good works

Jesus' death and resurrection.

7

The truth:

*Adventists look to Jesus Christ alone for salvation and not by just keeping the law nor doing good works. Although we do keep all 10 commandments, we do this as something that flows naturally from faith. Faith requires obedience, in that obedience is a natural element to faith. We are saved by grace through our faith ( Eph2:8), and by or faith, in our love for God, we remain obedient to His will, in which we uphold the law.

8

Poll

You have to go to church to be saved.

True

False

9

The Truth:

Romans 10: 9- 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Although attending church is very important, it does not lead one to be saved and have eternal life.

10

Poll

MOST SDAs DO NOT WEAR JEWELRY BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE RELIGION OF THE SDA CHURCH.

True

False

11

The Truth:

1 Peter 3:

3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.

4

Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Many Adventists do not wear jewelry not because of a church doctrine or rule but because of what the Bible says.

12

Poll

Adventists Falsely Predicted 1844 as the Return of Christ.

Yes. Sad to say it happened. Miller predicted this new date. In an event which is now called "The Great Disappointment," many Christians sold their property and possessions, quit their jobs and prepared themselves for the second coming. Nothing happened; the day came and went without incident.

No.

13

The truth:

William Miller, leader of the Millerite movement taught that Jesus was to return in 1844. Some Adventists were followers of William Miller, after The Great Disappointment, Adventists essentially re-examined the bible prophecy in Daniel, their conclusion was that the date what right, but the event they spoke of was wrong.

SDA Church was founded on  May 21, 1863.

14

Poll

Seventh-day Adventist Church holds the belief that doctrine doesn't really matter and all that matter is that we love God and we love others.

I strongly agree

Undecided

I disagree

15

The Truth:

In Revelation, God has specifically talked about the remnant church. Two characteristics of this remnant are that they “keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Though much can be said about these two characteristics, the crucial point for now is that the Bible does teach that God will have a faithful, loyal remnant people in the last days. This concept is important because, so often today, we hear that beliefs and doctrine don’t really matter. All that matters is, we are told, that we love others and be kind.(universal church) And though it’s true that loving others and being kind are important, the concept behind “the remnant of her seed” points to the idea of a distinct group of people whose beliefs are reflected in how they live. Thus, belief and actions are inseparable. (https://www.adventist.org/articles/the-remnant-of-her-seed/)

Poll

Our diet has anything to do with our salvation.

Yes

No

The Truth

Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV)

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

We are not saved by fork and knife; neither are we perfected by our pedometers. But better behavior is part of God’s salvation program.

Good works are part of God’s expression..all reflect on God’s name and character (1 Cor. 10:31). He works in us the willing and doing of His good pleasure (Phil. 2:13); our choices for our bodies are enlightened and will not dishonor or disrespect Him, our Savior and Master (1 Cor. 6:19, 20). -https://www.adventistreview.org/1910-24

Many are finding out now that vegetarians live longer. Vegetarianism is not a salvation issue but a 'living longer and healthier issue.' God wants us to be healthy. However today, there are more vegetarians outside the Adventist church then in. So this is a great misconception.

Poll

Seventh-day Adventists are committed to the unchanging biblical truths. Where does the church stand on those issues like LGBT and same-sex marriage?

The church would show compassionate heart in terms of fellowship and acceptance for all those who come in fellowship and worship in our churches [and] do not condone singling out any group for scorn or derision, let alone abuse but they would not be allowed to join as members.

"They are children of God and have a right to a family," "Nobody should be thrown out or made miserable over it."

The church has to create a civil union law. That way they are legally covered.

They may be (1) placed on probation (for those desiring to change their behavior), (2) "disfellowshipped" (excluded from participating in the sacraments for a finite period of time while they correct their behavior), or (3) excommunicated.

19

Seventh-day Adventists believe that sexual intimacy belongs only within the marital relationship of a man and a woman. This was the design established by God at creation.  For these reasons Adventists are opposed to homosexual practices and relationships. (This statement was voted during the Annual Council of the General Conference Executive Committee on Sunday, October 3, 1999 in Silver Spring, Maryland.)

Seventh-day Adventists are committed to the unchanging biblical truths which reveal that human beings are made in the image of God (Gen 1:27) We accept and embrace our Christian commitment to live, through the power of the Holy Spirit, as a Church that is just, caring, and loving, grounded on biblical principles. (This statement was voted by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Administrative Committee in Silver Spring, Maryland on September 15, 2020.)

The church does not condone them.

20

BOTTOM LINE:

The truth is that Seventh-day Adventist Christians hold to the truths of the Bible from beginning to end without changing a thing – It's all about Jesus.
