Written Essay vs PowerPoint

Uriah, I would like for you to do a written essay.

Maayan, Tzur, and Guy, you have the option to do a written essay or a PowerPoint Presentation.

3

Some things about expository essays:

  • Expository essays are about FACTS not OPINIONS

  • An expository essay SHOULD NOT say things like "I think," "I believe," etc.

  • You will complete an expository essay using The Writing Process

  • You should pick a nonfiction topic that you find interesting and you're curious to learn more about it

  • If you can't think of a topic, LET ME KNOW ASAP!

4

The Writing Process

  • Pre-writing (choosing your topic, research, taking notes on your research or creating an outline)

  • Drafting (when you first begin writing your essay)

  • Revising (when you read over your work to see if you have enough facts and information. If you don't, you would add those in)

  • Editing/Proofreading (When you fix mistakes with grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.)

  • Publish (When you have completed all stages of the Writing Process you will turn in your work.)

5

Writing an essay takes time!

Don't rush it!

What do you do when you pre-write?

1

Start writing your essay

2

Choose your essay topic, research it, and create an outline

8

Both your Essay and PowerPoint need to have:

  • A strong introduction

  • 1st Body Paragraph

  • 2nd Body Paragraph

  • 3rd Body Paragraph

  • A strong conclusion

  • Additionally, your introduction should have something called a thesis statement

9

What is a thesis statement?

A thesis statement is a sentence in your introduction that will tell the reader the main idea of your essay. For example, if you are writing about New York City, your thesis statement might be, "New York City is large, fast-paced city known for it's bagels, diverse population, and unique culture."

10

Multiple Choice

A thesis statement is important because...

1

It defines vocabulary

2

It is pretty

3

It provides readers the main idea of your topic. It guides them like road map.
