Conjugating -er/-ir Verbs

There are 3 verb endings in Spanish:

• -ar

• -er

• -ir

-er and -ir verbs

Conjugated endings for -er and -ir verbs are exactly the same except in the nosotros and vosotros forms.

To conjugate -er and -ir verbs, follow the same steps used for conjugating -ar verbs:

• Determine the corresponding subject pronoun Example: María y yo (comer) muchas verduras. María y yo = nosotros

• Drop the verb ending Comer → Com-

• Add the new ending Nosotros ending for -er verbs: -emos María y yo comemos muchas verduras.
