2

Before we get into conjugating in the present tense, we need to get a bit more information.

  • Who is doing the action?

  • What types of verbs are there?

  • What are the endings?

3

Poll

Do you remember this stuff?

I totally know it all. Give me the test.

I remember most of it, but I need a little refresher.

It sounds familiar, but I'm still a little fuzzy.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

4

Ok, first the SUBJECT PRONOUNS. These tell us WHO is doing the action (verb).

Here they are!

Poll

Ok, this part I'm good with.

Cierto (TRUE)

Falso (FALSE)

6

There are three types of verbs in Spanish.

  • -AR verbs

  • -ER verbs

  • -IR verbs

  • All verbs end in the letter -R before they are conjugated.

  • Before they are conjugated that are call INFINITIVES.

  • Each type of verb has its own set of endings for conjugation. These endings tell us WHO is doing an action.

7

Poll

So far, so good?

I got it. No problem at all.

It's becoming clearer in my memory.

Didn't remember, but I'm following now.

8

In order to form the regular present tense, there are 3 steps.

  • Remove the last two letters (-AR, -ER, or -IR)

  • Write down whatever is left. That's called the stem.

  • Add the appropriate ending.

9

And without further ado...

THE -AR ENDINGS!

10

And here are...

THE -ER ENDINGS!

11

And finally...

THE -IR ENDINGS

12

Now let's try a few together!

You can do it. I know you can!

13

Yo + Hablar

  • First, remove the last two letters (hablar - ar)

  • Next, write what is left. That is called the stem (habl-)

  • Finally, remove the correct ending. (YO ending for -AR verbs is -O.)

  • Put it all together and the conjugated form is yo hablo.
