So, let's think about things we might buy at Walmart...

toilet paper, milk, Hot Pockets


...and we'll write a sentence with them using a colon.

Selena's mom gave her a list of things to pick up from Walmart on her way home: toilet paper, milk, and Hot Pockets.

What did "toilet paper, milk, and Hot Pockets" amplify/expand? The list of things Selena was to pick up from Walmart.

So let's think of things we might see at a zoo...

giraffes, monkeys, lions

Aaron's class took a field trip to the zoo to see the animals they had been studying: giraffes, monkeys, and lions.

What did "giraffes, monkeys, and lions" amplify? The animals Aaron's class was going to see.

The choices don't always have to be "three." You could only have two or more than that.

He couldn't decide which he liked better: X-Men or Avengers.

They waited for a sign that everything was okay: a call, or a text, or an email, or a knock at the door, maybe.
