What is a pronoun?

A pronoun takes the place of a noun or nouns and may be singular or plural.


Singular pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, me, him, her


Plural pronouns: we, you, they, them, us

What is an antecedent?

An antecedent is the noun (or nouns) to which the pronoun refers.


Example: James opened his bookbag.


(James is the antecedent, his is the pronoun)

  • Example of correct agreement: Jane walked her dog.
