UNIT 1 TOPIC 3-COMMUNITIES
Where do you live?
Objective: We can describe the type of community we live in.
2
Think about where you live.
Do you live in a big city, or a small town? Is it hot and rainy all year long, or do you have four distinct seasons? What type of culture is in your community? People around the world live in many different kinds of places, but one thing is the same—almost everyone belongs to some type of community. A community is a group of people who live in the same area.
3
COMMUNITY SIZE
Some communities are very large—millions of people might live together in a big city. Other communities are very small. Just a few people can make up a community. What is your community like?
4
HOW ARE MANY COMMUNITIES THE SAME?
While many things in communities can be different, most communities have many things in common. All communities have many people who live near each other. Communities come together to create rules and laws to live by, which makes people safer. Communities have businesses that provide jobs for people. People who live in communities can help each other in many ways. For example, communities have people who work as teachers and police officers. Living in a community also means that there are people nearby to be friends and do things with.
