A Raisin in the Sun: About the Playwright
A Raisin in the Sun is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that debuted on Broadway in 1959.
Lorraine Hansberry was the first black female author to have a play performed on Broadway.
At the age of 29, she won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award — making her the first black dramatist, the fifth woman, and the youngest playwright to do so.
Hansberry struggled throughout her short life- with oppression via segregation, racism, and homophobia. She died at the young age of 34 from pancreatic cancer.

Chain of Events
When analyzing a play text, the first thing you must do is look closely at all the parts that make up the whole of the scene.
When looking at a scene, such as the one you have just read and watched, you should identify major events. For example, when Mama slaps Beneatha after the argument over religion.
One way to document these major events, and to better understand the text, is to create a chain of events.
A chain of events is a chronological list of the most important, highest impact moments in the scene
