Another type of nonfiction text is an article. You might see articles in newspapers, magazines, and online. An article tells about one topic. All articles are based on facts.

A fact is information that can be proven to be true.

Main Idea
Every nonfiction article has a main idea. The main idea is the most important thing the author wants you to understand. You can find the main idea by asking, "What is this text mostly about?" Sometimes the author will tell you the main idea in the title or at the beginning of the text.

Supporting Details
Supporting details give more information about the main idea. They also help the readers understand the main idea, backing it up with evidence such as names, places, dates, and examples.
