Students will gain an understanding of the different positions and their jobs on a football team.

Offense

In order for an offense to work effectively, every single position needs to execute their specific job each and every play. Today we will learn about the different positions on an offense and their unique responsibilities.

Linemen

  • The offensive line consists of 5 to 6 players.

  • Center

  • Left and Right Guards

  • Left and Right Tackles

  • Usually a Tight End

Center

  • lines up directly over the ball in the middle of the offensive line.

  • hikes the ball to the quarterback each play.

  • blocks for run and pass plays.

Guards

  • Lines up directly next to the center

  • Blocks on run and pass plays

  • Often used to "pull" on run plays

  • Lines up outside of the guards

  • Blocks on run and pass plays

  • Often seen as the teams best pass blockers

  • Used in run blocking

  • Also used as a receiver
