Let Review Estimating Quotients

Let's begin by watching a short video.            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOjyvMbcHXY

 3914 ÷43914\ \div4

8

Estimating Quotients

I don't want to round when dividing. I need to look for compatible numbers

( basic facts)

4 x 9 = 36

4 x 10 = 40

9

Estimating Quotients

I know 39 is between 36 and 40. Since 3,914 is is closer to 40.

 I will use the 4 x 10 =40

 4,000÷4=1004,000\div4=100
So  3,914÷4= about 1,0003,914\div4=\ about\ 1,000
Is there another way we could have solved this problem

Understanding Divison and Remainders

Use a model or your knowledge of basic facts to solve the problem.

 13÷2=13\div2=
2 x 6= 12
13 - 12 = 1
so  13÷2=6 R 113\div2=6\ R\ 1

 13÷2=6 R113\div2=6\ R1

There are 2 equal groups of 6 with 1 left over.
