I can...

  • Determine equivalent ratios.

  • Compare ratios.

Determine the missing values in a table of equivalent ratios.

  • Plot values of a ratio on a coordinate plane.

  • Solve math and word problems using ratios.

3

Standards

  • 6.AF.9

Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane.

  • 6.NS.10

Use reasoning involving rates and ratios to model real-world and other mathematical problems (e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations).

Comparing Ratios

Ratios are useful for making comparisons. For example, in one karate class, the student-to-teacher ratio may be   81\frac{8}{1}  , which means that there are 8 students for every 1 teacher. In another class, the ratio may be  121\frac{12}{1}  , which means that are there are 12 students for every 1 teacher. The ratio  121\frac{12}{1}  is greater than 81\frac{8}{1}   , so the second karate class has a greater student-to-teacher ratio.
