Renewable Resources
2
But first
a review on nonrenewable resources
3
Multiple Select
Nonrenewable resources are (check all that apply)
limitless/unlimited supply
Finite- once they are used they are gone for good.
Great for the environment
Bad for our environment
4
Multiple Select
Which are examples of nonrenewable resources/energy. ( check all that apply)
Sun
coal
oil
natural gas
water
5
Multiple Select
Which of these are renewable?
Biomass
water
wind
geothermal
solar
6
Replaceable and Renewable
A seemingly limitless supply...
7
Unlike nonrenewable resources, renewable resources are replaceable sources of energy. A renewable resource is a natural resource that can replenish itself or that has a seemingly unlimited supply.
8
Many of these resources, like solar, wind, and biomass obtain their energy directly or indirectly from the sun. Hydropower utilizes the pull of Earth's gravity on water to generate electricity. Geothermal energy from the within the Earth can also be captured and put to work to generate electricity. Watch the video below to learn more about renewable resources.
9
Video (Module 6 Renewable Resources)
How much power can one wind turbine produce?
enough for a small town
10
Multiple Select
Which of the following are renewable resources? (Select all that apply.)
hydropower
coal energy
biomass energy
wind energy
11
Renewable resources include biomass energy, hydropower, wind energy, solar energy and geothermal power.
12
Multiple Select
Why is the sun’s renewable energy important to animals?
They eat plants that get their energy from the sun.
They absorb the sun’s energy through their skin as a way of staying warm.
The sun’s energy isn’t so important to animals because they don’t depend on plants.
They are able to directly convert the sun’s energy into food.
13
Animals eat plants and/or other organisms that eat plants.
14
Multiple Select
What are renewable resources?
They are synthetic resources that humans use but are not able to recycle or reuse.
They are natural resources that are in abundant supply or that can replenish themselves.
They are abundant natural resources that cannot replenish themselves.
They are natural resources that are in limited supply or that take a long time to create.
15
Renewable resources are natural resources that are in abundant supply or that can replenish themselves.
16
Multiple Select
Why is energy from the sun so important? (Select all that apply)
Uranium gets its energy directly from the sun.
Biomass sources receive their energy from the sun while living.
It is not an abundant resource, so it is important to use what we have.
It provides the energy used by plants to make food
17
Biomass, such as plants, receive their energy from the sun while living.
18
Multiple Select
Which renewable resource is a vital source of energy for all living things?
biomass
hydropower
solar
wind
19
Renewable resources, like solar, wind, and biomass, obtain their energy directly or indirectly from the sun.
