Wind

2

Wind is created by unequal heating and cooling.

Land heats up faster and cools down faster than water.

Multiple Choice

Question image

In this experiment which beaker would heat up faster?

1

Sand

2

Water

4

Local Winds

Sea Breezes and Land Breezes are two types of local winds caused by the unequal heating and cooling of land and water.

5

Multiple Choice

What causes sea breezes and land breezes?

1

Unequal heating and cooling of land and water

2

Ocean waves

6

Sea Breeze

Occur when the land is heated up during the day. Warm air rises and cool air blows in from the cooler ocean to fill the space.

7

Land Breeze

At night, the water cools down more slowly than the land. The warm air rises over the water and the cooler air from the land blows out to the ocean to fill in the space.

Multiple Choice

Miko is sitting on the beach in the middle of the DAY. Which way does the cool breeze blow from.

1

Cool air comes from the land

2

Cool air comes from the ocean

9

Multiple Choice

Miko takes a boat ride at NIGHT. She feels the cool breeze blow. Where does the cool breeze blow from?

1

The land

2

The ocean

10

Global Winds

Global winds are winds that are flow great distances.

Casue of Global Wind

Global winds form because the Sun rays have to bend around the sphere shape at different angles. At the equator, the sun is almost directly overhead for most of the year. Warm air rises at the equator and moves toward the poles. At the poles, the cooler air sinks and moves back toward the equator.

12

How they appear...

They occur at different latitudes and curve because Earth is spinning.

Multiple Choice

Question image

Why do global winds occur?

1

The Coriolis Effect

2

The unequal heating and cooling of land and sea

3

The unequal heating and cooling because the angle that the sun's rays hit the earth

4

The hot air at the polar regions sinks down to the cold air at the equator
