Unit 3:

• Revolves around the idea of Embracing Heritage.

• There will be multiple books, short stories, & poems read from a variety of different perspectives, including Hispanic, Native American, & African American.

• Throughout the unit, we will be doing multiple projects focused around the idea of embracing different cultures.

heritage: (noun) the background from which one comes; something handed down from one's ancestors or the past 

Definition:

culture: (noun) the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time

Our full class novel for this unit is:

ESPERANZA RISING

This book falls under the hispanic category. There is quite a bit of Spanish, but all words or phrases are either immediately translated, or can be figured out using context clues.

Heritage Research 

In this unit, you will be doing a research project where you will showcase one of the countries from which your ancestors immigrated. 

Now we are going to listen to the first chapter of "Esperanza Rising" as a class.
