• A lot of people consider Pelé the greatest football player of all time. He was born on October 23, 1940, In Três Corações, Brazil. This natural athlete became a superstar with his performance in the 1958 World Cup. He played for Brazil for 20 years, helping them to win three World Cup competitions. He was named player of the century in 1999 and is now the ambassador for many charities.

  Pelé is the first child of Joᾶo Ramos and Dona Celeste. His parents were very poor and so Pelé lived in poverty. As a child, he developed a great talent for football by kicking a rolled-up sock stuffed with rags around the streets.

  A football coach saw that he was naturally talented and convinces Pelé’s family to allow him to move to a bigger city so that he could play for a better team. He signed with Santos and immediately started practicing with the team. He scored the first professional goal of his career before he turned 16 and led the league in goals in his first full season and started playing for the Brazilian national team. At the age of 17, he played for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden and led his country to win the World Cup. Pelé’s great footballing skills and winning personality made him a national treasure. Many clubs from around the world wanted him to play for their teams, but Pelé stayed with Santos until he retired in 1974.

  In 1978, Pelé was awarded the International Peace Award for his work with UNICEF. He has also served as Brazil’s Extraordinary Minister for sport and served. Pelé was Named FIFA’s “ Co-player of the century” in 1999, along with Argentine Diego Maradona. To many, he is an unusual footballer that will never be equaled, and all great athletes in the sports are measured against this Brazilian superstar.
