How are equations and inequalities different?

Inequality Keywords

• at least - means greater than or equal to ≥

• no more than (at most) - means less than or equal to ≤

• more than - means greater than >

• fewer than - means less than  <

Inequality or Desigualdad & Expression or Expresión

An inequality is a statement that one expression is less than (or equal to) or greater than (or equal to) another expression.

Examples: I have less shoes than socks.

Shoes < Socks

I am thinking of a number that's no more than 100:

X ≤ 100

Solving for the unknown in inequalities

• If you are adding or subtracting keep the inequality symbol the same

• If you are multiplying or dividing by a positive number keep the inequality symbol the same

• If you multiply or divide by a negative number reverse the inequality. (flip it)
