What's the difference?

  • Direct object answers the question, "What/who is receiving the action?" Ex: They sent him a postcard. (WHAT was sent?)

  • Indirect object answers the question "To/for whom?" It's typically a person or group of people. Ex: They sent him a postcard. (WHO received the sending?)
